Aloha again my friend.
When traveling to Hawaii, it can be difficult to leave.
The PGA Tour knows the magic of islands. Every year, just like after Kapalua, he stays in Hawaii for another week, hopping puddles from Maui to Oahu for the Sony Open at Waialae Country Club.
Unlike last week’s Uncut Sentry Tournament of Champions, Sony features a full field of 144 players, including defending champion Hideki Matsuyama. Sungjae Im and Jordan Spieth will also be in attendance, but neither are current betting favorites. That honor goes to his 20-year-old rising star, Tom Kim, who just finished his T-5 finish at the Sentry.
This week’s host course is a par 70 Seth Rayner design with a history of plentiful birdies. The scoreboard should be dyed red. If all goes well, the plays we make fall apart.
To help with that, we made a solid pre-tournament pick Brady Canon As our new betting expert. Guanyin puts a “pro” on the prophet. A seasoned golf bettor with over 20 years of experience, he is the on-air host for VSiN (Vegas Stats & Information Network), long shot, the network’s golf betting show, is now in its fifth season. You can follow Kannon on his Twitter. @LasVegas Golferalong with his methodology and rationale, you can read his four favorite Sony picks below.
I’m also sharing data from Chirp because I want to know where the public is leaning. Free-to-play mobile platform (and GOLF.com affiliates) offer attractive prizes (see below). you can winAfter checking out Kannon’s picks, keep scrolling to see which “favorite” Chirp users are leaning this week.

This week’s course, Waialae, presents a markedly different test than what we saw on Maui last week. Kapalua’s Plantation Course covers a large area. It’s a par 73 with undulations, elevation changes, the widest fairways and huge greens on the Tour. Waialae is a narrow, short par 70 course with flat, small greens and thick rough. One similarity, however, is that both courses require wind to really test the players. It’s supposed to blow a little on Thursday and more on Sunday, but nothing too crazy is currently predicted.
To inform my picks, I studied Strokes Gained: Approach, SG: Around the Green, SG: Putting (Bermuda Grass), and SG: Par 4. I also investigated. We used El Camaleon at Mayakoba, Sea Island (RSM Classic), Harbor Town (RBC Heritage) and Colonial Country Club (Charles Schwab Challenge) when comparing player performance on courses comparable to Waialae.
4 Picks I Want to Win at the Sony Open
Brian Harman (20-1)
Hamann finished the wraparound season with a 2nd place finish in 2nd place. These runners-up came at his two comp courses, Mayakoba and Sea Island. Hermann is 5th on Tour in driving accuracy, 14th in regulation on green, 4th in scrambling and 8th in birdie average. He’s had a pair of finishes here in Waialae in the past where he finished as high as 4th, 20th and he finished 13th. He has also achieved his three top ten finishes at both Colonial and Sea Island.
Russell Henry (25-1)
If Georgia can win back-to-back U.S. championships, why not take back-to-back Sonys along with the Bulldogs, with both Herman and Henry? I broke it by hitting. He also won here at Sony, where he finished 2nd, 11th and in the top 20 twice. He has top 10s at Harbor Town twice and at Sea Island three times. comp course. He is number one in driving precision on the tour and in the last 24 rounds he ranks fourth in the field in SG: Approach and Par 4 scoring.
Keegan Bradley (36-1)
Bradley was also a recent winner, winning Zozo in mid-October. Five of his last eight Sony winners have won in the previous fall. Bradley aligns well with all the stats I’ve seen this week, but Pat has always been his downfall. finished in 88th place. He has finished 13th here and 12th twice. He finished 8th and 15th in past Mayakoba.
Andrew Putnam (50-1)
He played very well in the fall series, finishing 21st in the RSM Classic just before Thanksgiving after finishing 2nd to Bradley at Zozo in Las Vegas the previous week and 12th at Shriners. ended up. Driving precision and working on and around the greens are Putnam’s strengths. In the last 24 rounds, he ranks 10th in this discipline in his SG: Putting (Bermuda Grass) and 18th in Fairways Gained. He finished 4 years ago here at Sony where he finished 2nd and at Colonial where he finished 15th and he finished 20th and he finished 3rd.
