HONOLULU — Adam Scott gives his opinion on the current state of the PGA Tour. Twenty years into his career, he decided now was a good time to hear them out.
Scott is one of 16 players appointed to the 2023 Player Advisory Board. The PAC is the first step in consulting the PGA Tour Board and Commissioners on issues affecting the Tour, and there are many.
This year is seen as a bridge from Saudi-backed LIV Golf’s wealth of funds to reach a radical change for the PGA Tour to face its greatest challenge in history.
Scott, the first Australian Masters champion to play on a limited schedule, was seen as likely to join LIV Golf when it started. However, he has never shown interest, despite maintaining an unbiased view of what each league has to offer.
But he said his first PAC at the age of 42 was less about what was happening at LIV and more about the changes towards the PGA Tour. Scott says it’s best for each league to do its own thing.
“I’m more interested in what the Tour is going to do with the Tour than in how they deal with the lawsuit,” Scott said at the Sony Open on Friday. there is.
“And I think it convinced me that it was worth diving into.”
Scott said he was a little inspired by how Rory McIlroy took a leadership role in carving out a new path.
“I think there are a few other players to watch, if I can call them players to watch, that could help push things in the direction that he thinks is right,” Scott said.
“It’s an important time for our tour to plan for the next decade and beyond on what playing on the PGA Tour is going for and what it will look like,” he said. said. “It’s time for change. Big decisions will be made. They have to be the right ones.”
The tour has not announced the rest of PAC. The players then elect a president, who eventually makes him a player director on the PGA Tour’s board of directors.
“There are smart people running the tour. I don’t think I’m taking over Jay’s job,” Scott laughed, referring to commissioner Jay Monaghan. I don’t mind stirring the pot if it’s necessary to stir the pot in a conversation at Line up for a minute.”
