Nelly Korda is in Orlando competing in the LPGA’s Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions. But making even bigger waves in professional sports this week is another member of her family.
And no, we’re not talking about her sister and fellow LPGA pro, Jessica Korda.
The Korda family is tremendously talented at golf and tennis, with a roster of star players among them. is currently making a potentially career-defining run at the first tennis Grand Slam event of the year, the Australian Open.
Sebi advanced to the fourth round by defeating world No. 8 and 2021 US Open champion Daniil Medvedev early Friday morning.
After the second round at the Tournament of Champions, Coda revealed that he woke up early on Friday before his alarm went off to watch his brother’s big game over breakfast in the Players Dining Room.
“Yeah, I saw him — actually, I saw him win the meal, so that was cool,” Korda said Friday night. , I watched him play, naturally knowing he was playing.”
Even though she’s used to seeing her family excel as athletes, Korda sounded excited about her brother’s accomplishments.
“Honestly, he’s put in a lot of work. He’s got a great support system behind him and it’s really cool and special to see what he’s doing. I hope,” Korda added.
Sebi is not the first professional tennis player in the Korda family. His mother Regina is a top 30 player and his father Petra won his 1998 Australian Open.
In that regard, after his win over Medvedev, Sevi claimed he was the worst athlete in his family.
But Nelly didn’t have that. When asked about Sebi’s remarks on Friday, Nelly strongly disagreed, stating that, in fact, Sebi is the best athlete of them all.
“Complete BS. [Sebi] it’s the best. Honestly, he’s the best. His hand-eye coordination is incredible. His swing — I actually envy his swing. it’s crazy. he is left handed He was born right-handed, but plays golf left-handed. He played hockey left-handed. I mean, he grew up playing hockey. He was pretty good at it too. Like he skates really well, plays golf well, and plays tennis beautifully. “
She added: Sorry for my French. “
Sevi has a chance to reach his first Grand Slam quarterfinal this weekend against No. 10 Hubert Hürkatz in the fourth round of the Australian Open. Nelly will start Saturday’s third round of the Tournament of Champions four strokes behind him.
