MALLELAIN, SOUTH AFRICA — Ocky Stridam claimed his first DP World Tour title with a two-shot win at the Alfred Dunhill Championships in South Africa on Sunday.
Stridham had four birdies on the first five holes after the turn and finished 3-under 69 to 18-under par at Leopard Creek Country Club.
“Good, my favorite place,” said Strydom. “I’m just happy.”
The 37-year-old South African rounded out Spain’s Adrian Otaegui (-16) with a 68. England’s Laurie Canter (-15) was one stroke behind his third after posting an excellent 64 for him in the final round.
Former Open champion Louis Oosthuizen, 68, finished tied for seventh at 13-under.
Stridham took the lead overnight, but had a rollercoaster of birdies, bogeys, birdies and double bogeys on the 6th to 9th holes.
A double bogey on the ninth threatened to ruin his challenge after finding water on his second shot.
He also picked up shots at the 13th and 14th, making par all the way home.
Strydom’s breakthrough win came after tying the course record with 63 in the third round at Leopard Creek. Scotland’s Scott Jamieson had set the record just one day ahead of him.
Strydom set a course record of 63 at the South African Open last weekend at Johannesburg’s Blair Atholl Golf and Equestrian Estate, finishing tied for 15th.
